General Barrier Methods

Barrier Methods are the most common form of contraception. They prevent sperm from entering a woman's uterus, thus preventing pregnancy.


‘Male’ condoms

(Also known as “external” condoms)

Pros: 

  • No need for prescription

  • Some protection against STI’s

Cons: 

  • Possible breakage/tearing


‘Female’ condoms

(Also known as “internal” condoms)

Pros:

  • No need for prescription

  • Some protection against STI’s

Cons:

  • Possible breakage/tearing

  • More expensive than male condoms
