Cervical Barrier Methods

Similar to general barriers, Cervical Barriers prevent sperm from entering a woman's uterus by blocking the sperm's access to the cervix, preventing pregnancy.




Diaphragm

Cost: $0-250

Pros: 

  • minimal protection against bacterial STI’s

Cons: 

  • Limited protection from overall STI’s

  • Increased risk for UTI’s

  • Possible cervical irritation 


Cervical Cap

Cost: $$0-250

Pros: 

  • minimal protection against bacterial STI’s

Cons: 

  • Limited protection from overall STI’s

  • Possible cervical irritation


Lea’s Shield

Cost: $0-100

Pros: 

  • minmal protection against bacterial STI’s

  • Does not need to be fitted by a physician 

Cons: 

  • Limited protection from overall STI’s

  • Increased risk for UTI’s

  • Possible cervical irritation
